Centrex Pro & Cons

Centrex

Rather than purchasing and installing your own telephone system, (possibly also upgrading to Cat5 cabling) which is expensive and uses up valuable office accommodation, you could choose to use Centrex.  With this option as you can see from the diagram, the switching equipment is off premise and is supplied to you on a shared basis by a network service provider.

Centrex can be used in a single site or a multi site configuration and these are both shown in the diagrams shown below.

The main attributes of the Centrex system are as follows:-
bulletAll Switching is carried out in the Central exchange.
bulletExtensions within the same Company can dial directly between each other using only the extension number.
bulletTo access the public network, extensions dial 9 as with a traditional PABX
bulletMulti-site Centrex possible through many network providers enabling the Company to have its own private network.
bulletDirect Dialling Inwards (DDI) generally is provided as a standard offering.
